GB News’ Economics and Business Editor Liam Halligan has issued a stark warning to UK shoppers after bids to buy discount store Wilko fell through today.

Speaking to Mark Longhurst on The Live Desk, Halligan discussed the troubling situation for the high street store which fell into administration in August, and has been seeking buyers to save the store and its workers.

Liam said: “There’s something much bigger going on here Mark - the high street is being hollowed out.

“I know the Labour Party from talking to their front benchers, they are making, or they’re gearing up to make part of their election offer a kind of high street rescue package.”

Halligan continued: “I don’t expect 12,000 redundancies, I don’t expect 400 stores to close, its a matter of how many, where, and the quality of them - that’s what this negotiation is about – and about the price.”
